About the Port of Felixstowe
The Port of Felixstowe operates under the Hutchison Ports identity and is the trading name of The Felixstowe Dock and Railway Company. The port has nine container berths across two container terminals. Its facilities include Trinity Terminal and Berths 8&9, with Berths 8&9 described by the port as its newest and deepest container berths. Felixstowe uses Destin8, operated by Maritime Cargo Processing, as its Port Community System. Destin8 provides inventory linking between shipping lines, customs agents, the terminal, hauliers and government agencies. It enables relevant parties to monitor information including arrival, discharge, customs status, holds, releases and out-gating. The port also has three purpose-built Border Control Post examination facilities serving its container and Ro-Ro terminals. The facilities include ambient and temperature-controlled examination areas and support inspections by organisations including Suffolk Coastal Port Health Authority, the Animal and Plant Health Agency and UK Border Force. Containers selected for X-ray examination can be scanned at the port.

Duty or import VAT not paid in time
A declaration may be ready, but the goods cannot be released where the relevant customs duty or import VAT has not been paid or secured. Payment arrangements should therefore be confirmed before the expected clearance time.
Shipment and inventory information do not match
Felixstowe is inventory linked through Destin8. Delays can arise where information on the customs declaration does not correspond with the shipping-line or port inventory information. The container, Bill of Lading, shipment and nominated-agent details should all be checked before the declaration is submitted.
Customs or government-agency examination
HMRC, Border Force, Port Health, APHA or another authority may require documents, scanning or a physical examination. Felixstowe has onsite examination facilities, but the timing of an examination is controlled by the relevant authority and cannot be guaranteed by the customs agent.
